The last paragraph about the McCarthy era involving right-wing politicians who characterized their opponents as communists and therefore evil, and whose fascism was supported by some branches of institutionalized Christianity, resonates with the current scene in Canada. Although Harper himself has used the term &quot;socialists&quot; instead of &quot;communists&quot;, in the blogging fora of places like CBC.ca some of the nutbars that support him have been accusing even the Liberals of being pinkos and communists. With the behind-the-scenes support from a lot of evangelical Christians.

Nevertheless, I live in hope that even some of those most indoctrinated of souls still have, deep within them, some capacity to tell the true light from the false.</description>
